The Italian Café Albion St Glasgow Italian Cafe, Glasgow

Top furnishing firm Satelliet Browns, and their new neighbours CM Design have teamed up to fit out Glasgow’s latest and most unusual bar restaurant.

The Italian Café at 92 Albion Street, in the heart of the Merchant City is the brainchild of Paul Stevenson, owner of the Italian Kitchen just up the road at Ingram Street.

The new restaurant is based on the traditional Roman Enoteca, serving Italian dishes in ‘tapas’ size portions, and offering a impressive range of 70 wines, with thirty of them, including some top labels, sold by the glass.

CM Designs have recently moved into Carlyle Avenue in Hillington, just across the road from Satelliet Browns.

Kevin Ockrim joint managing director of Satelliet Browns, along with brother Harvey said: “It was a real pleasure working on such an exciting project with our new neighbours.

“They came up with some great designs, which our furniture really complimented.”

Joseph Doyle, Satelliet Browns’ Northern Sales Manager said: “The tables and chairs, enhance the Italian feel, with olive/sage green leather and maple walnut wood finishes for the chairs.

Italian Cafe, Glasgow“The marble bar has a large overhang, with New York style bar seats which make eating at the bar a real pleasure.

Chris Gallagher CM’s Senior Designer said: “Mr Stevenson opted for an upmarket and contemporary feel that is relaxed rather than formal, and it works extremely well.”

“The bar is a real feature and it is designed so that customers can watch all the activity in the open plan kitchen.”

Paul Stevenson said: “The look and feel of the place has been a big hit with Glaswegian who seem to love the Enoteca concept of small portions, and lots of wines to choose from.

“Although the portions are intentionally small, the menu is extensive with 14 different fish dishes, a dItalian Cafe, Glasgowozen meat and poultry dishes, and just as many vegetarian dishes, all following traditional Italian recipes.

“We have a selection of 70 wines, and serve 30 of them by the glass, from the entry level to top of the range wines like Amarone which sells for £9.95 for a 125 cl glass and £13.50 for a 250 cl glass.

“We have only been open a couple of weeks, but already customers are spending more time and sampling different wines. One chap came in a sampled six different wines by the glass each one a bit better than the one before.”
